If we don’t provide urgent support now, vulnerable communities will be unable to cope once the virus hits.

The consequences of COVID-19 for countries with limited infrastructure and fragile health systems, including many of our Pacific neighbours, could be catastrophic. And for people living in areas already affected by disaster or conflict, the risks are compounded. In refugee camps like Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, entire families live crammed into tents or temporary shelters without access to health information, soap, or even clean water.

We know from past pandemics, like the Ebola virus, that girls will be more likely to face violence at home, child marriage, extreme hunger and a permanent end to their education. We also know first-hand the importance of preparation and rapid response to save lives and protect children and girls.

This crisis will not wait and our response can't either.
