These young women are part of Plan International’s Safer Cities program in Kampala, which has already had success working with local authorities, police and boda boda drivers to address threats to girls’ safety in the city. Now they want to take their work to the next level by advocating to the Kampala Capital City Authority.

Dear Kampala Capital City Authority,

I stand in solidarity with Ugandan youth advocates who want to make Kampala Safe for Her. I support their campaign for a safer Kampala free from violence and harassment by asking you to pledge to:

- ensure adequate security lighting on all streets in an around Kampala city
- demolish unfinished buildings that pose a risk to safety of many girls and young women
- ensure every street is named for ease of movement and effective response in cases of threats to safety
- ensure all building plans provide easy access for persons with a disability
- clean trenches to avoid flooding
- ensure public toilets are adequate, accessible and safe
- create an awareness campaign on the causes and impacts of violence and harassment on girls
